Tigers clinch playoff spot in final regular season game
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers are headed back to the postseason.
The Tigers knocked off the Swift Current Broncos 4-3 on Saturday, claiming the final Eastern Conference playoff spot and ending the year for the Broncos, who with a win would have leapfrogged the Tigers and kept them out of the playoffs.
Trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes, Tigers captain Tyler MacKenzie scored 14 seconds into the second period to start a run of four straight Tigers goals. Oasiz Weisblatt and Dallon Melin scored in the second. Cayden Lindstom potted the eventual game-winner six minutes into the final frame.
The Tigers will play the Western Hockey League champion Winnipeg Ice in the first round. The first two games will be March 31 and April 1 in Winnipeg. Games 3 and 4 will be at Co-op Place on April 4 and 5. If necessary, Game 6 will be at Co-op Place on April 9.
