Typical wildfire season lies ahead

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB – With the wildfire season starting this March, firefighters from all regions of southern Alberta gathered last week.

To prepare, firefighters attended a Wildfire Presentation last week, which the provincial government organized.

Jason Linton, the Emergency Services Coordinator with Cypress County, says there’s lots of moisture in the area right now, making things look favorable.

However, Linton says it’s still too early to tell and it depends on the upcoming weather.

“So far so good, but a couple weeks of warm weather, high winds could change that, so we are being prepared and being proactive, with some stuff that’s going to be coming up,” said Linton.

In addition, he says the heavy snowfall warning in all of southern Alberta will help in warding off fires, and the Cypress County Fire Services has secured a second water tender, which will arrive in two months’ time.
