Mar 9, 2023 | 8:54 AM
The Alberta government says it is forming two new units made up of municipal police and RCMP to focus on gangs and firearm violence across the province.
It says it will spend $4.4 million this year on the project that will be part of the existing Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams.
The government says gang activity has been steadily rising.
For example, it says there were 126 shootings in Calgary in 2022 – an increase of 30 per cent over the previous year.
