MEDICINE HAT, AB – It’s not uncommon for college students to switch majors at least once.

Medicine Hat College’s Open House is one way for students to gauge different programs and see if it’s a fit before enrolling.

The event takes place this weekend over two days, at two campuses.

On March 3 from 5:30-8 p.m., at the Brooks campus, and on March 4 from 1-3 p.m., at the main campus in Medicine Hat.

Students preview lectures and connect with other students and instructors in 40 different programs.

“This really is an opportunity to invite students who are thinking about going to college to campus so they can explore different programs and find their fit,” said Alison Clark, student recruiter at Medicine Hat College.

Information on other supports, like financial aid, advising and residence will also be shared.

Clark says there are also some new programs for students to explore too.

“A couple new programs we’ll be showcasing at the open house – sport and event marketing and management and sustainable innovation. We have a service dog program that just started this year and it’s very exciting for a lot of students to check out,” said Clark.

She continues, “some other programs include arts and science, health care, nursing and paramedic, which is very popular programs, as well education and criminal justice.”

“It’s a good opportunity for students and their families because the family, their parents, siblings – they’ll be able to get a good understanding as to what the college life will be like that you’ll be coming to,” said Sashana Henry, student ambassador.

“Last year we had about 400 students come to our last open house in the fall. We hope to see students come out. This is a great opportunity on Saturday that we can make a little more accessible on the weekend, including maybe people who are traveling to come check out Medicine Hat as well,” said Clark.

A $75 application fee will be waived if students apply to a program while at the Open House.
