MEDICINE HAT, AB – The postseason awaits the Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team.

The team heads to Calgary on Friday to take the Red Deer Polytechnic at 7 p.m. in the first of potentially two play-in games. A win over the Kings would put Medicine Hat into a second play-in game against St. Mary’s University and a shot at making it to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championship tournament.

In their regular season finale this past weekend the Rattlers fell 78-66 to the University of Alberta-Augustana. The women’s basketball team ended their season with a 79-35 loss to the University of Alberta-Augustana.

The season is also over for the women’s volleyball team falling three sets to zero to Lethbridge College.

On the track, Rattlers runners placed third at an ACAC meet in Red Deer.

The 13-member Rattlers team posted 12 personal bests and set six new school records on their way to 69 points. Host Red Deer Polytechnic topped the field with 120.5 points.

Becky Ross won the 3000m and placed second in the 1500m. Maddy Scrimger was third in the 3000m and placed third in the 4x400m relay along with Raya Grover, Pyper Gill and Chelldyn Molnar. The women’s team overall scored 38 points.

The men’s 4x200m relay team of Carson Schiller, Jaiden Romaniuk, Justin Jager and Branon Sumner and the 4x400m team of Schiller, Jager, Sumner and Gage Smith both finished second. Sumner was the top individual performer for the men’s team, placing fourth in the 600m. The men earned 31 points overall.

The next competition for the team is the ACAC Indoor Track Championships in Edmonton on March 18-19.
