Cypress County to go ahead with Irvine Community Resource Centre

IRVINE, AB – Cypress County is moving ahead with the construction of the Irvine Community Resource Centre in the centre of the hamlet.

During the regular county council meeting today a motion to proceed with the project in Woodward Memorial Park was passed.

The centre will be the new home for the Irvine Community Library which is currently across the street from the park.

Council chose the location of the new centre in November about five years after consultations on the project first began. Some members of the public were opposed to the location. Council accepted feedback from the public over the past month, including five presentations at the council meeting on Feb. 7.

The $1.5 million project is funded by the Municipal Sustainability Initiative, a grant program that ends this year. The 3,600-square-foot facility includes room library, board room, outdoor playground, and park space.

The Irvine Community Resource Centre is slated for completion in 2023.
