Police wages to increase by 2.5% annually until 2024

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police officers and staff will see a wage increase of 2.5% annually until 2024.

A new collective agreement between the city and the Medicine Hat Police Association has been inked for a four-year term.

The old collective agreement expired back in 2020 so the new agreement is backdated to begin in 2021.

City Councillor Robert Dumanowski says the wage increase is a fair deal for both the city and the Medicine Hat Police Association.

“We knew coming into this budget cycle that we would have a need to make some wage adjustments. Because we have a positive mind set and prevailing support of both the association and city staff to negotiate a reasonable deal,” said Dumanowski.

“Everybody wins in the end and ultimately the safety of our citizenry is in good stead.”

The new collective agreement will be active until the end 2024.
