Tim Gruber running for NDP nomination in Cypress-Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB – NDP members in Cypress-Medicine Hat have three options as they pick who will run under the party banner in the provincial election set for May 29.

This is the first time in recent memory the party has had a nomination race in Medicine Hat.

Tim Gruber has been planning his run for the nomination for more than a year and a half. He was involved in his high school’s student union and a union member through his careers at Alpha Dairy and as an educator.

He says he’s called hundreds of people both NDP members and non-members and believes the United Conservatives are vulnerable right now. He says people are upset with inflation, affordability and the lack of available doctors.

Health care, education, the twinning of Highway 3 and retaining the RCMP as our rural police are the issues he hears about most and will focus on.

“I’ve got more experience as an educator. I’ve been through the health system, I’ve spoken to a nurse, I’ve spoken to a doctor. I’ve spoken to all three of our superintendents I’ve spoken to an RCMP officer,” says Gruber.

“So I’ve spoken to a lot of people whose issues I’m concerned about and that and I can take some of those issues that they have said and if I do win the nomination I can take those and advance in the May 29 election.”

Gruber says you can connect with him by calling 403-526-8360 or 403-581-3608 or emailing tgruber598@gmail.com.

Cathy Hogg and David Martin are also running to be the party’s candidate. The nomination date is set for Feb. 28.

Drew Barnes has held the Cypress-Medicine Hat seat since 2012. He twice won as a Wildrose Party candidate and won in 2019 under the UCP banner. He now sits as an Independent MLA after being kicked out of the UCP caucus in May 2021.

There are two people running for the UCP Cypress-Medicine Hat. Party members will decide between James Finkbeiner and Justin Wright on March 16.
