MILK RIVER, AB – Alberta Health Services has announced a pair of temporary closures of the emergency department at the Milk River Health Centre.

AHS says the closures are due to a lack of physician coverage. The facility has been closed several times since Christmas.

The first of two temporary closures was from 5 p.m. on Feb. 14 to 8 a.m. on Feb. 15.

The emergency department will again close at 5 p.m. on Feb. 15 and reopen at 8 a.m. on Feb. 17. Emergency health services will return to being provided around the clock as of 8 a.m. on Feb. 17.

During the closure periods, 911 calls in Milk River will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 87 kilometres away, or the Raymond Health Centre, located 60 kilometres away.

Nursing staff will remain on-site at the Milk River Health Centre to look after long-term care.

Anyone with questions related to non-emergency healthcare can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.
