MEDICINE HAT, AB – Cooper Hilworth led the Medicine Hat Cubs to a dominant 7-3 victory over the Mountainview Colts on Saturday.

Hilworth scored four goals, including the game-winner, adding an assist. He potted the winner early in the second period when he netted a power play goal.

With the victory, Medicine Hat improves to 27-7-3, Mountainview falls to 21-15-2. The Cubs have won four straight games, remaining in second place in the Southern Division, the Colts have lost two of their last three, holding onto third in the North.

Mountainview opened the scoring 1:09 into the game when Haiden Parks fired a one-timer from the low slot area. It was the 12th goal of the year for Parks.

After taking an early one goal lead, the Colts allowed three unanswered Medicine Hat goals, which was enough for the Cubs to secure the win.

Hilworth surpassed the 200 career points milestone and leads the Heritage Junior Hockey League in points this year.

“My dad showed up, surprised me, drove all the way up from Jasper so it was nice to put on a little show for him,” said Hilworth, post-game.

“Definitely a great way to end the Cubs regular season career.”

With their win, Medicine Hat swept their two game series against Mountainview, outscoring them by a score of 14-9. The Cubs play again on Sunday in their final regular season game, when they take on the Wheatland Kings in Strathmore. Mountainview will play their first playoff game on Wednesday against the Three Hills Thrashers.
