Alberta RCMP to focus on distracted driving in February

Feb 4, 2023 | 7:00 AM

atKeeping your eyes on the road and off your phone or other devices will be something that RCMP across the province will be focusing on in February.

Tips that can help you from being pulled over by law-enforcement officers include pre-setting any hands-free electronic devices such as a GPS, radio or other music devices before you take your vehicle out of park.

If you have to make a phone call or send a text, police say you should pull over to a safe spot and put your car into park before doing so.

They add using your phone in any way while stopped at a red light is illegal and can result in a ticket.

Personal grooming, reading, writing, and attending to children or pets are other things you should avoid while driving.

Last year, Mounties handed out 5,231 distracted driving tickets across Alberta.

A distracted driving ticket carries with it a $300 fine.
