MEDICINE HAT, AB – The well-known drama program at Crescent Height High School is hosting a modern musical on the next two weekends.

Head Over Heels is a jukebox musical comedy that follows the story of a royal family who is afraid of losing their beat. Thirty-five talented students have been rehearsing since September.

“High energy dancing, awesome live band, beautiful costumes and sets and lots of special effects,” says Jennifer Davies, director and school drama teacher.

The play features music from the all-female rock band The Go-Go’s.

“We have a full band playing live music with a stage full of talented performers doing high-energy songs and dancing and it’s just really fun, really impressive, something that I know our community will enjoy,” said Davies.

Each student has spent several hours choreographing dances, learning lines and designing sets and costumes. Many even came in during their weekends to rehearse.

Students say they’re ready to put on a broadway style show for the community.

“Just being up there on the stage with everybody and seeing the product come together I think that’s actually the part I find most exciting,” say Matthew Smith, who plays Mueidourus the Shephard.

“I just really love and being able to share that passion with everybody on stage and teaching them dances and coming up with creative moves is something I’m really passionate about so I really enjoy it,” said Ella Hoffarth, student choreographer.

Head Over Heels opened Thursday and runs Feb. 3-4 and 9-11 with showtime at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at the Crescent Heights High School website.
