College hopes employers, job seekers will make connections at Community Job Fair

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Around 50 exhibitors will be at Medicine Hat College later this month for the Community Job Fair.

The exhibitors run the gamut from health care to police and security to manufacturing to trades to seasonal employers. They’ll be offering full-time work in career opportunities as well as internships and summer positions.

MHC career services assistant Shelly Drefs says anyone attending should be prepared to network to make themselves stand out.

“The number one thing we tell students, well students and any job seekers that are coming, is to just be prepared to talk to people,” she says. “The employers are here and that’s what they really want is you to ask questions and learn more about their company, about the kind of jobs they have available. So be prepared to ask some questions and go to as many booths as you can because it’s often surprising what kind of jobs they offer that you don’t necessarily think about.”

The Community Job Fair is on Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drefs says the college feels it’s important to help make those connections between employers and job seekers in the community.

“Anybody who’s looking for jobs whether they’re in the middle of a career change or transitioning, new to the workforce. It’s really about community and open for everybody,” she says.
