Annual pruning returns to Southeast and Southwest Hill

Feb 3, 2023 | 5:02 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB -The annual boulevard tree program returns.

And after an inspection of the trees, the city has decided to focus their pruning in the Southeast and Southwest Hill neighbourhoods.

Every year the city trees are pruned to decrease any hazards and keep the trees healthy. Parks and Recreation focuses on pruning the trees most at risk of falling.

Generally areas with more tree canopy receive more attention.

Crew members expect to work in the Southeast and Southwest Hill areas until April. Workers will be pruning from 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. to dusk, so there may be minor disruptions in public roadside parking.

The Parks and Recreation Manager, Dave Geino, says they may also focus on other areas if necessary.

“We’ll be taking a look at other factors which may occur throughout the summer, such as deterioration of health of some of the trees, which may require us to do pruning in a different location, depending on what we’re seeing during the winter time,” said Geino.

The city asks that if you see any city workers, to please abide by the signage for public safety.
