Lethbridge man charged in connection to two robberies

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a suspect that they allege committed two street robberies.

At approximately 12:24 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, officers were called to the 400 block of 7 Street South.

A 63-year-old woman told police that she was walking down the street and stopped to read a sign when an unknown man approached her and grabbed her purse.

The woman was reportedly dragged on the ground for around 20 feet before the suspect allegedly stole her car keys and fled the area.

The next day, LPS heard from a 73-year-old woman who said she was robbed around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, as well.

LPS says she on the 300 block of 6 Street South and was approached by an unknown man who grabbed her purse, pulled her to the ground, and dragged her towards an alley. The suspect let go and fled the scene.

Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injures.

Ken William Kagwanja, 21, of Lethbridge, is charged with two counts of robbery.

Following a bail hearing, he was released from custody on a promise to appear in court.
