Snow plows focusing on main roads again due to weather

MEDICINE HAT, AB – This morning fog and freezing rain warnings were issued for Medicine Hat and area. The warnings made the main stretches and hilly areas of the city a priority.

Funk says earlier this morning the snow plows were clearing residential areas, but the freezing rain forced them to shift their focus.

“Last week we were spending a lot of time in our category 3 roads, which is the residental roads, because we hadn’t seen any new precipitation for some time,” said Trevor Funk, Superintendent Operations from Municipal Works Office.

He says now with the freezing rain, they’ve had to shift back to the hills and the main roads.

Still, it leaves some residents wondering when the back alleys and residental areas will be ice free.

“Once we’ve taken care of those [category 1 roads], we can get back to those residental roads,” said Funk.

Funk assures that snow plows are in every zone right now, and there are four sidewalk machines, sanding in their designated zones, which is more than previous years. He says they will continue trying to put more time into these problem residental areas.
