Southern Alberta man charged in connection to stolen vehicles

ROCKYFORD, AB – RCMP have apprehended a man after numerous vehicles and other items were reportedly stolen.

On Jan. 5, members of the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, alongside Strathmore RCMP, executed a search warrant on a property in the Village of Rockyford, approximately 55 kilometres southwest of Drumheller.

RCMP say they confiscated four stolen vehicles, a fifth-wheel RV trailer, stolen license plates, stolen identification documents, office equipment used to create fraudulent identification and financial cards, 25 grams of suspected fentanyl, and 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

The recovered vehicles, according to a media release from RCMP, include:

  • 2017 Honda Civic
  • 2020 Hyundai Elantra
  • 2007 Ford F550
  • 2003 Chev Silverado
  • 2009 Heartland Big Country RV Trailer

Jason Lazette, 46, of Rockyford, faces a total of 27 charges.

The charges include eight counts of obtaining or possessing identity information, five counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, four counts of failure to comply with release orders, and two counts each of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Following a bail hearing, Lazette was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Strathmore Provincial Court on Jan. 17.
