Charged in death of husband Alf

Deborah Belyea preliminary hearing underway

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A preliminary hearing for a woman charged with second-degree murder in the death of her husband in October 2021 is taking place this week in Medicine Hat Provincial Court.

Deborah Belyea was charged on Oct. 16, 2021, one day after the remains of her husband Alf were discovered. He had been reported missing on Oct. 11.

Alf Belyea was a Cypress County councillor at the time of his death, representing the Jenner/Suffield area.

Deborah Belyea is also charged with causing an indignity to a human body.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to last the remainder of the week.
