Saskatchewan RCMP release top 10 9-11 calls that “missed the mark” in 2022
Medicine Hat, AB–Saskatchewan RCMP 9-11 call-takers and dispatchers received 352, 854 calls for service in 2022.
The calls ranged from mis-dials and false alarms to more serious incidents regarding matters of public safety.
They also included many calls where 9-11 was “misused”. Saskatchewan RCMP say the list is released to raise awareness about the misuse of 911 and how that can possibly delay dispatching help in an emergency situation.
“Every moment that we are spending speaking with someone who is complaining about their shopping experience or wanting to prank call 911 is time that call-takers and officers could have been helping someone in a life-threatening situation,” says Lee Rosin, Recruiter and Training Facilitator for the Saskatchewan RCMP Operational Communication Centre.
