Canada Post recovers more than 500 stolen packages in eastern Alberta

WAINWRIGHT, AB – A search warrant has resulted in the discovery of more than 500 postal packages at the residence of a Canada Post employee in Wainwright, Alberta, northeast of Red Deer.

On November 23, 2022, a search was conducted by the Wainwright RCMP, the Eastern Alberta District (EAD) Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), and Postal Inspectors from Canada Post.

Police allegedly recovered more than 500 deliverable items that have since been returned to Canada Post to be delivered to their intended destinations.

One suspect was arrested and released with conditions to appear in Wainwright Provincial Court on January 5, 2023.

RCMP and the EAD CRU are working closely with Canada Post on the investigation into the offences of theft from mail under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Criminal code charges have not been laid at this time.
