REDCLIFF, AB – The Town of Redcliff will get a little bit brighter and a whole lot merrier tonight.

The town is hosting the second annual Christmas Tree Lighting at Redcliff Memorial Legion Park and inviting the community to come out to celebrate.

Town staff were busy this morning stringing the lights on the tree for tonight’s festivities. There will be hot dogs and hot chocolate, live carolling and if the weather allows campfires will be set up in the park and Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in attendance, and businesses will have extended hours for Moonlight Madness shopping.

Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick hopes people will come out to celebrate the Redcliff spirit and watch the tree grow over the years. he says the idea for the winter celebration came up when the town was working on its municipal development plan and people asked for more events with a hometown feel.

“When we did the revisions to the park upgrading the tennis courts, putting in all the chairs and picnic tables for people to come and have lunch here and stuff in the summer, this was just a way of bringing something in, we never did have anything around Christmas,” he says. “All of our events were June and July so this was a way to bring Redcliff people together in the winter.”

The tree lighting is set for 7 p.m., right in the middle of the 6-8 p.m. festivities. The event is being presented by the Town of Redcliff, the Redcliff Youth Centre and Redcliff Family Dental.
