MEDICINE HAT, AB – A local couple who alleges theft and extortion following their move from Ontario to Medicine Hat has been reunited with some of the items.

Charmaine Dupuis and her partner own Poprocks in downtown Medicine Hat. In June of this year they amalgamated this store and one in Hamilton, Ont. and hired movers to move stock from there to here. They allege the moving company held the items and tried extort them.

The couple has now received an update on the whereabouts of their belongings.

With the help of Medicine Hat Police Service, Calgary Police Service and Hamilton Police Service, their belongings allegedly being held were found at a vacant lot in Calgary.

CHAT News reached out to Medicine Hat police, who confirmed that the case is under investigation, and has been handed over to Hamilton Police Service.

“It was in a transport that was leaking, all of our personal belongings had some form of damage, so we are kind of digging through that to see what can be salvaged,” says Dupuis, who adds that getting their belongings back has been a big help.

“Way in the back a lot of our stock was there, not all of it, but a lot of it. So we were able to expand, which has been amazing.”

Some stock of the couple was allegedly sold on Facebook Marketplace. Dupuis says that the moving company has not made contact since, and they are working with police to lay charges.
