MEDICINE HAT, AB – With the holiday season near, some local organizations are hoping to bring Christmas cheer to seniors in Medicine Hat. Two programs aim to provide gifts to isolated or lonely seniors during this Christmas season.

Medicine Hat’s AgeCare Valleyview teamed up with London Drugs and the Veiner Centre for their annual A Christmas to Remember program. London Drugs will cover Stocking Stuffers for Seniors, and the Veiner Centre will be doing a Happy Holiday Card campaign.

Hatters who want to participate can grab a tag from a Christmas tree from either AgeCare Valleyview, London Drugs or the Veiner Centre, buy a gift and then drop it off at London Drugs.

Misty Ross, retirement living coordinator at Age Care valley-view says, every little donation matters.

“The seniors’ needs or asks for this program are very small – some candies, a diabetic stocking. We’re not looking for extravagant gifts, it’s more the joy that the visit and delivery of the gift brings, and just to know someone is thinking about them.”

Ross adds that they need at least 2,500 gifts this year, and currently they are nowhere close to reaching that number.
