COVID-19 hospitalizations, cases holding steady

The number of hospitalized Albertans with COVID-19 and the number in ICU are relatively flat compared to last week as Alberta reports another 40 COVID deaths.

The weekly update was posted by the province on Wednesday, reporting that 1,107 Albertans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 40 of those people are in ICU. Last week those numbers were 1,141 and 40.

There were 1,358 new cases in Alberta over the past seven days, up from 1,344 the previous period, and 40 deaths, down from 44.

The province’s COVID-19 dashboard is now showing only zone statistics instead of by municipality. There were 73 new cases in the South Zone in the past seven days, up just one from 72 in the previous period.

The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 23.4 new cases per 100,000 people is below the provincial average of 30.7.

There have been 40,339 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 471 deaths.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.2 per cent of all people have received one dose, 75.7 per cent have received two doses and 38.2 per cent have received three doses.
