AMAC hosting first home meet of the 2022/23 season

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Alberta Marlin Aquatic Club is hosting its fall invitational at the Big Marble Go Centre, from Nov. 18-20.

This will be the first of four swim meets at the club’s home. The other three will begin with the Last Chance Swim Closed invitational Jan. 21-22, the AMAC Spring Invitational May 26-28 and the Summer Festival South June 17-18.

The club is open to all ages of swimmers, helping young children grow their skills to compete when they are of age, and coaching competitive swimmers to achieve at the highest levels.

Head coach Jordan Harper is excited to see the performances of the athletes this year, the club’s first full season since the easing of COVID restrictions.

“We are seeing a lot of guys excited to swim,” he says. “Attendance has been a lot better because they have been allowed back in the water. I think that two-year break, a lot of us that were behind are catching up. And you know this season is a lot of hunger and chasing times for the kids, so that’s good to see.”

Harper says it will be nice for the athletes to have their first home meet of the season after being on the road in Lethbridge a few weeks back.

“It’s a different experience for the competitors when they have a chance to swim in front of more of their family at home, sleep in their own beds and get more comfortable in their home environment.”

He didn’t want to single out anyone specifically to watch for at the meet, but said there are more than a few club members that will push for career bests this season.

There is no admission to watch the meet, and everyone is invited to support the team starting at 4 p.m. Friday.
