COVID-19 hospitalizations up in Alberta, 44 more deaths reported

Alberta is reporting an additional 51 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 and another 44 COVID deaths.

In its weekly report released on Wednesday, the province said that 1,141 Albertans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, and 40 of those people are in ICU. Last week those numbers were 1,090 and 36.

There were 1,344 new cases in Alberta over the past seven days, down from 1,408 the previous period, and 44 deaths, down from 46.

The province’s COVID-19 dashboard is now showing only zone statistics instead of by municipality. There were 72 new cases in the South Zone in the past seven days, down from 81 in the previous period.

The seven-day new case rate in the zone of 23.1 new cases per 100,000 people is below the provincial average of 30.4.

There have been 40,268 total COVID-19 cases in the zone since the start of the pandemic, and 468 deaths.

Vaccination statistics for Medicine Hat show 79.2 per cent of all people have received one dose, 75.7 per cent have received two doses and 38 per cent have received three doses.
