MEDICINE HAT, AB – Hatters may notice more acts of kindness than usual in the coming weeks.

This comes as the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta (CFSEA), along with partners FCSS, City of Medicine Hat, What Matters to Hatters Coalition and The Medicine Hat & District Chamber of Commerce, started the Spread Kindness YXH campaign on Nov. 13, World Kindness Day. The campaign will run until Feb. 13, National Random Acts Of Kindness Day.

“We are trying to encourage and initiate kindness activities, whether they be random or planned, for the next 13 weeks,” says Niki Gray, executive director of the CFSEA.

Gray adds each week will consist of a new theme.

“Week one is philanthropy week, today is National Philanthropy Day. So we are encouraging residents to use their time, challenge or treasure to get out there and donate their time, or make a donation to their charity of choice.”

Next week will be snow angel week where residents will be encouraged to shovel snow for their neighbours, family members or businesses.

The CFSEA is encouraging more people to get involved.

“This year especially, we are really trying to get businesses involved. Our non-profits are always so willing and able to get out there, and initiate some random acts of kindness. Businesses do engage but we’re hoping to increase that number by quite a bit. All residents of Medicine Hat are welcome to join,” says Gray.

Gray adds organizations or businesses wanting to get involved can fill out this form.

Citizens are encouraged to share their acts of kindness on social media, with the hashtags #MHRAK and #SpreadKindnessYXH
