Premier Smith calls on Ottawa to address affordability crisis

Nov 9, 2022 | 2:28 PM

Medicine Hat, AB–Premier Danielle Smith and MLA Elect for Brooks Medicine Hat is demanding federal action to address the affordability crisis.

In a statement, Smith says with inflation surging people across the country are struggling to feed their families, pay their rent and utilities, and cover the cost of getting to work.

Smith says governments need to take immediate action noting the UCP will be announcing more affordability measures soon.

The Premier says the federal government can take an immediate and simple step towards addressing this crisis by cancelling the planned increases in the federal carbon tax. “The more than tripling of this tax between now and 2030 will add fuel to the inflation crisis, adding unnecessary costs to families heating their homes and driving to work,” Smith stated.
