AHS says respect and kindness keep health-care sites safe for everyone

Nov 2, 2022 | 11:10 AM

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is asking the public for their help in ensuring health-care facilities remain safe and secure for patients, families and health-care workers.

The organization says AHS staff and physicians have mostly safe and positive experiences with Albertans. However, AHS acknowledges that incidents of patient-to-worker harassment or violence do happen in their facilities.

The health authority says people often visit their facilities when stressed and emotional, and AHS hospitals and other facilities can be busy. But, the organization says, harassment and disrespect are never acceptable. AHS says the health and safety of its workforce is essential to providing quality care.

AHS says Albertans can always share their feedback and concerns regarding health-care services or other support services received through the Patient Relations Department and its patient concerns resolution process. AHS says it has also developed many programs, resources and education to help workers have positive interactions with patients, families and visitors.

AHS says it aims to always treat patients and their families with respect, kindness and dignity, and they ask the same consideration for staff and physicians. By doing so, AHS says it ensures that the delivery of health-care services is not impeded, and that health-care facilities are safe and secure for everyone: patients and their families, as well as health-care workers.
