Pregame: Blades at Tigers

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers take on the Saskatoon Blades in game three of their five-game homestand at Co-op Place.

The Tigers come into this one having gotten the win in their last game, 5-1 over the Brandon Wheat Kings. That game leaves them 1-1-0 during their time at home so far.

The big storyline of tonight’s tilt is the debut of the new leadership for the Tigers, piloted by captain Owen MacNeil. This will be the first time a member of the team will have the “C” stitched to their sweater since Daniel Baker last season.

One of the Tabbies, Brayden Boehm, just hit a career milestone in his last time out on the ice, reaching 90 career games played in the WHL.

In that time, Boehm has recorded 12 goals and 17 assists.

Another Tiger with something to brag about is forward Brendan Lee, currently sitting at the top of the Canadian Hockey League standings in powerplay goals with six.

That stat has pushed Medicine Hat’s powerplay to fourth-best in the WHL with a nearly 29 per cent conversion rate.

On the other side of the ice tonight will be the Saskatoon Blades, who took all four games in the season series last year.

Saskatoon has been surging coming into tonight’s game having won their last six. The most recent of those wins came against the Edmonton Oil Kings who they topped 5-1.

Brandon Lisowsky and Kyle Crnkovic are currently tied for the Blades team lead in points at five.

They currently sit third in the Eastern Conference, and third in the league behind the Winnipeg Ice and the still-unbeaten Red Deer Rebels.

If the Tabbies are able to get the win tonight that would move them from ninth in the East, up to seventh, and from 16th to a tie for 11th overall.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. from Co-Op place, if you are not able to make it you can tune in live on Wild 94.5 with voice of the Tigers Gino De Paoli.
