Feds take first step toward hiring a company to process dental-care claims

Oct 28, 2022 | 6:32 AM

OTTAWA — Health department officials say the federal government plans to hire a third-party company to process claims for its new dental-care insurance program.

The procurement department has invited companies with experience in dental-insurance claims to apply for pre-qualification in a process that launched today.

Department officials told The Canadian Press that the process will help the health ministry refine the program before hiring a company to take on the work.

The briefing was provided by health department officials on the condition they not be named publicly.

The dental-care program is a condition of the supply and confidence agreement the Liberals signed with the NDP in March to prevent an election before 2025.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh has said he wants to see that program in place by the end of 2023.
