UPDATE 5 p.m.: An wind warning has been issued for the Cypress Hills Provincial Park-Foremost area

——–

Environment Canada has issued wind warnings for areas west of Medicine Hat.

Warnings were issued on Thursday morning for the Brooks-Strathmore-Vulcan and Lethbridge-Taber-Milk River areas and to the B.C. boundary.

Strong winds of between 70 km/h with gusts up to 100 km/h have developed in those areas and are expected to ease this evening.

Environment Canada says damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. The warnings also advise people to be prepared to adjust driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Wind warnings stretch up the western side of the province, with winter storm warnings in effect in Banff and Jasper National Park.
