Tigers come out victorious over the Brandon Wheat Kings

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Tabbies got back in the win column Saturday night, defeating the Wheat Kings 5-1 at Co-Op Place.

It was another quick start for The Hat in the first period going up 1-0 on Brandon thanks to the tip-in goal from Reid Andresen 4:45 into the frame.

For Andresen it was his third goal of the season, and seventh point. Placing him third in defensive scoring for The Tigers.

The push continued less than two minutes later for the home team, when forward Owen Macneil would get his second goal of the season on the powerplay.

Dru Krebs was the illustrator of that play finding Macneil in the slot for the goal. Krebs now has eight assists in nine games since rejoining The Tabbies after his stint at the Washington Capitals training camp.

The period would settle down from their until the final seconds, when Tigers Defenceman Pavel Bocharov found the back of the net shorthanded on a hard working play for his second of the season.

The Hat would make it a 3-0 lead headed into the second period that saw no score change, but lots of animosity between the two sides.

In the third Tigers goaltender Beckett Langkow was only 20 minutes away from grabbing his first shutout of the season. For Langkow it was his tenth straight start, and game number fourty of his WHL career.

Brandon stayed with the goose egg on the board until halfway through the third, when on the powerplay Brett Hyland beat Langkow glove side to get his team on the score sheet.

For Hyland it was his fifth goal, and tenth point of the season. Leaving him second amongst The Wheat Kings in points, and tied for first in goals.

With the shutout bid shattered for Langkow, The Tigers chose to add two more goals for insurance late in the third.

The first came from forward Brenden Lee on the powerplay, that being his sixth goal and tenth point for The Hat this season.

Then only twenty seconds later Brayden Boehm who get a goal of his own in a nifty way. slapping the puck out of the air, and into the back of the net.

That would be the second point of the night for Boehm after assisting on the initial goal of the game for The Tabbies.

Final score of the game was 5-1, improving The Tigers record to 4-5-1 on the season. Associate Coach Joe Frazer says he liked his teams effort, but their are still details to work on.

“I really liked our start, thought we got away from it a little but mid-frame there. Although I thought the third period was really good, you know getting back on them and being relentless on the forecheck. It was a big win.”

Third star of the game from Brandon was goaltender Nicholas Jones, making thirty-four saves on the thirty-nine shots he faced.

Second star from The Tigers was 2004 born player Pavel Bocharov, who had two points on the night.

First star went to Tabbies goaltender Beckett Langkow, stopping twenty-two of the twenty-three shots he took throughout the night.
