Tigers pound Americans on the back of Shane Smith’s hat trick

Oct 13, 2022 | 9:24 AM

Shane Smith starred as the Medicine Hat Tigers reached double digits and then added another goal for good measure in a rout of the Tri-City Americans.

Smith scored his first career WHL hat trick and seven of his teammates also had multi-point nights in the 11-3 victory.

The Tigers and the Americans traded goals in a high-scoring first period, with the Tigers taking a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. It was almost all orange and black after that.

The Tigers scored three times in the second period to open up a 6-2 lead and put two more in the back of the net before the Americans cut the deficit to 8-3. The Tigers kept pouring it on, scoring another three in the final five minutes of the third, including Smith’s hat trick marker.

Dru Krebs and Brenden Lee had four-point nights while Brayden Boehm and
Bogdans Hodass each had three points.

Beckett Langkow made 21 saves in the victory, which evened the Tigers record at 3-3-1.

The Tigers have one game left on their U.S. road trip, wrapping it up Friday against the Spokane Chiefs beginning at 8:05 MT.

That action can be heard on Wild 94.5 with the voice of the Tigers, Gino De Paoli.
