Southern Albertans named to federal Conservative shadow cabinet

OTTAWA – Pierre Poillievre, leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, announced a new Conservative Shadow Cabinet on Wednesday.

Poillievre said in a news release, “I am proud to announce our hard-working and strong team that will take on Trudeau and his costly coalition and their plans to continue to cripple the Canadian economy and make life more costly for Canadians. Together with this team, Conservatives will take on Justinflation, fight all of Trudeau and his costly coalition’s tax hikes – including his plans to triple the expensive carbon tax – and tackle the cost-of-living crisis so that young people can buy a home, families can afford nutritious food, and our seniors can retire with dignity.”

The shadow cabinet includes Lethbridge Member of Parliament Rachael Thomas, who has been appointed the shadow minister for Canadian heritage.

Thomas says, “We are determined not only to make life more affordable, but also restore freedom so Canadians can use their gifts, talents, and abilities to prosper themselves and contribute to a vibrant Canada. Canadians deserve to be in the driver’s seat of their own lives. I will be focused on preserving Canadians’ rights and freedoms guaranteed in the Charter, as well as ensuring that it is Canadians who are best served by any legislation that comes forward, not the special interests of legacy media groups, Liberal elites, or the government.”

Thomas has previously served in numerous shadow cabinet roles including digital government, youth, and status of women. She was also a former cabinet chair.

Foothills MP John Barlow has been named the shadow minister for agriculture, agri-food, and food security.

In a social media post, he says, “It is an absolute honour to have been asked by Pierre Poilievre to continue to serve as shadow minister for agriculture, agri-food, and food security. The importance of agriculture to our national interest cannot be overstated. I will continue to fight for our farmers, farm families, producers and all agri-food workers to ensure their voice is represented in Parliament.”

Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz was left out of the shadow cabinet.
