Transit’s electronic fare system launches Oct. 22
MEDICINE HAT, AB – The MHT Go! electronic fare system has been installed on all city buses and will start accepting payments later this month.
Beginning on Oct. 22, Medicine Hat Transit riders will tap or scan their reloadable MHT Go! pass or scan their Day Pass to pay when boarding.
“We hope to see our riders get on board with this new way to ride,” said Gordon Dykstra, acting manager of Medicine Hat Transit. “With the Go! pass, riders will be able to load and re-load their card online or by visiting a fare vendor. Contactless payment provides a convenient and safer way to pay when boarding the bus.”
The system will be introduced over the next several weeks so that riders can adjust and get familiar with the system. Fare vendors will begin selling MHT Go! monthly passes on Oct. 15. Paper day passes are meant for one-day use and are available from the driver once the appropriate fare has been paid. The Day Pass becomes valid the first time it is scanned. Day passes and “eCash” will be valid on the bus starting on Oct. 22.
