MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Tigers played the second game of their road trip Saturday night against the Portland Winterhawks.

Starting in goal for Medicine Hat was Beckett Langkow, and on the opposite side of the ice it was Dante Giannuzzi for Portland.

In the First period it was all Winterhawks as they opened up the scoring 13:11 into the frame thanks to James Stefan’s second goal of the season. Only 3 minutes later it was his teammate Luca Cagnoni finding his way through the Tigers defence to score on the Breakaway.

Down 2-0 headed into the second period the Tigers were looking for an answer, and they found it 5:02 into the period. It was the first of the year for Tabbies forward Tomas Mrsic to draw the score closer 2-1.

Portland was not ready to sit with only a one goal lead for long though as Josh Zakreski potted one at 12:48 of the second to establish a 3-1 lead headed into the third period for the Winterhawks.

The majority of the third remained quiet from both sides with the clock winding down to less than three minutes to go before the score would change. It was the second goal in two games from Alex Drover that drew the Tabbies within 1.

Less than a minute later Brendan Lee wanted to send the game into extra time securing his 4th goal of the season that left the game all square at the end of the third.

Headed into overtime The Tigers were looking to make it two wins in a row to start the U.S. swing, but fell short as Kyle Chyzowski netted his first of the season to give Portland the win 4-3.

Medicine Hat will be back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Seattle to take on The Thunderbirds at 7:05 p.m.

That action can be heard on Wild 94.5 with voice of The Tigers Gino De Paoli.
