Hold and secure at St. Mary’s School on Tuesday

Sep 13, 2022 | 10:13 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat school and division central office were briefly put into hold and secure protocol on Tuesday morning.

The Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education says the hold and secure was called for St. Mary’s School and the central division office at around 9 a.m. as per emergency response protocol. Hold and secure is used in response to potential threats outside the school building in the surrounding neighbourhood. An all-clear was called at 9:14 a.m.

A second hold and secure unrelated to the first was called for St. Mary’s School around 12:30 p.m.  An all-clear was given shortly after 1 p.m.

CHAT News has reached out to city police and the MHCBE for more information.

During a hold and secure, all entrance doors to the school are locked, with no one permitted in or out of the building, the board explains in a Facebook post. No one, other than law enforcement, is permitted access to the building until the hold and secure has been cleared.
