Southern Albertans on surgical wait list can expect a call

Sep 7, 2022 | 9:27 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services (AHS) is working to update its surgical wait list.

Over the next few months, officials with AHS’ Surgery Waitlist Management Team will phone residents in the South Zone who are awaiting a scheduled surgery.

Patients will be asked to confirm that AHS has contacted the correct person and that they have the correct health number and birthdate.

This work is part of AHS’s surgical recovery plan, which aims to reduce wait times for non-urgent scheduled surgeries. They plan to contact up to 350 patients each day.

A pilot project in the Edmonton Zone resulted in surgical waitlists being reduced by 5.6 per cent.

A media release from AHS states that this is not part of a scam, but they are advising the public to be aware of others who may try to conduct scams under their name.

“Patients are reminded AHS will never ask for financial information or for any personal information other than your provincial personal health number or birthdate during these calls,” reads a statement from AHS. “If the phone call or voicemail asks for additional information, such as a social insurance number or banking information, do not provide that information or return the call.”

Patients with follow-up questions for AHS surgery wait list management can call 1-855-882-0334.
