Annual Parade of Homes is underway

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The annual fall parade of homes begins today, with homes available for viewing in Coulee Ridge and Desert Blume neighborhoods.

Jackie Taylor is the president of BILD Medicine Hat, formerly the Canadian Home Builders Association.

She says each of the four homes in the parade was built on spec, which means the builders risked their own assets to construct these homes.

They’ve already paid out about $600,000 in wages to the various sub-trades involved, which is good for the local economy.

Taylor says the number of homes in this year’s parade is down from previous years, but that’s actually a good thing.

“We had more builders wanting to build, but they were so busy with custom homes that they didn’t have enough manpower to complete a spec home when they had their schedule completely filled with pre-purchased custom homes,” says Taylor.

“It actually shows the industry in Medicine Hat is quite strong and active right now,” adds Taylor

The homes in the parade are in two of the premier areas of the city, something Taylor says reflects another trend of people who are now looking to move up into their dream home.

The homes are available for viewing every Wednesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. through to Oct. 2.
