MEDICINE HAT — Members of the Medicine Hat and District Labour Council will once again be marking Labour Day in Medicine Hat with a special event.

The council will be hosting a food drive for the Root Cellar Food & Wellness Hub in front of Real Canadian Superstore.

That includes representatives from the Health Sciences Association of Alberta, CUPE, Public Service Alliance of Canada, CUPW, UFCW and the United Nurses of Alberta.

Labour council president Clifton Campbell says there will also special donations from the council at the end of the food drive.

“The Medicine Hat and District Labour Council is donating $1,000 to the Root Cellar, formerly the Medicine Hat Food Bank, and we’re also donating another $1,000 to the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter,” says Campbell.

Campbell encourages donors to go to the Root Cellar web page for a list of items that are always in demand.

The Labour Day event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Real Canadian Superstore, and Campbell hopes they can top last year’s total of around $5,000 in donations.
