Taber Cornfest back for family fun in southern Alberta

The free event is led by the Taber Chamber of Commerce, with support from local sponsors.

Popadynetz said, “It’s great that all of our sponsors in the local community are able to help out and make sure that everybody’s able to do this for free.”

“If you’ve got a young family, this is the place to be in Taber this weekend.”

He added that as part of the fun, attendees can see corn eating and corn stuffing competitions, and, “they usually give some of that corn out for free after the event.”

“There’s a lot of corn stands all around town,” Popadynetz said.

Taber Cornfest has been entertaining attendees for more than three decades, and Popadynetz noted the event is the largest free festival for families in Western Canada.

He added that even if someone cannot make it out to Taber for Cornfest, they can watch the fun on a YouTube livestream, which is something organizers were inspired to set up after a scaled-down event last summer in the midst of the pandemic.

“If you’re not in Taber but if you’re in another country or you’re away from Canada, you can actually watch Cornfest on the livestream, our main stage, all the action,” Popadynetz said.

“There’s just so much going on that weekend, [so] it’s great to be able to catch up and see things on YouTube, even if you’re not living in Taber.”

New Features

Popadynetz teased some new and exciting ‘on-ground entertainment, but did not reveal what that meant, saying, “Just come out and you’ll be able to find out some of our new stuff, and our new bands that are coming out.”

He did reveal that the car show this year will feature new vehicles from Edmonton. Popadynetz said, “So you’ll see some new cars that you haven’t seen in Southern Alberta if you come to the car show.”

He added that organizers are seeking clean-up crews for the event. Anyone who is interested in helping out can contact the Taber Chamber of Commerce at 403-223-2265.
