Two Medicine Hat athletes medal at Canada Summer Games

Team Alberta had a successful showing at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara, Ontario.

The Games came to a close on Aug. 21, after just over two weeks of competition.

At the conclusion of this year’s event, athletes from Alberta won 111 medals including 35 gold, 33 silver, and 43 bronze. Alberta finished fourth in the medal count behind Ontario (198), Quebec (142), and B.C. (128).

Among the Albertans who are bringing home some hardware are several from the southern region.

Gold Medal Winners:

  • Angelina Ellis-Toddington (Lethbridge): Wrestling Individual up to 64 kg Female
  • Andreas Troschke (Lethbridge): Hammer Throw Male
  • Team Alberta: Basketball Female
    • Delaney Gibb (Raymond)
    • Grace Hansen (Magrath)
    • Abby Graves (Raymond)

Silver Medal Winners:

  • Naomi Leam (Lethbridge): 50m Freestyle Special Olympics Female
  • Team Alberta: Baseball Male
    • Cade Harrison (Medicine Hat)
    • Jeff Bullock (Medicine Hat)
  • Team Alberta: Volleyball Male
    • Jacob Sargent (Lethbridge)

Bronze Medal Winners:

  • Team Alberta: Wrestling Team Female
    • Angeline Ellis-Toddington (Lethbridge)
    • Payton Shields (Lethbridge)
  • Team Alberta: Box Lacrosse Female
    • Syrianna Running Rabbit (Siksika)
  • Team Alberta: Soccer Male
    • Victor Gouttin (Lethbridge)
  • Kira Kopec (Brooks): Heptathon Female

Team Alberta was also awarded the Centennial Cup, given to the province or territory that is the most improved from one Games to the next. At the 2017 Canada Summer Games, Alberta won a total of 98 medals including 26 gold, 38 silver, and 34 bronze.
