MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat Musical Theatre is resurrecting an old favourite to raise the curtain on its 2022-23 season.

Evil Dead The Musical, first performed by MHMT in 2011 and based on the cult classic films Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness, kicks off the season on Oct. 14.

Following that MHMT presents A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play in December, Up Pompeii in February and 12 Angry Men in April.

“We’re very excited about this year’s season of shows,” says board member Amber Stark. “It’s a little different than what we normally do. We’ve got a lot of plays this year, we only have musical actually this year and we’re really excited to bring something new to Medicine Hat, and bring some new shows that people haven’t seen before.”

December’s production of A Christmas Carol: A Live Radio Play will mark the third such play from the group, following War of the Worlds and It’s a Wonderful Life last year. Stark says they received positive feedback for that style.

She describes Up Pompeii as “a fun little romp of a play filled with innuendos and silliness” set just before Mt. Vesuvius erupts.

In 12 Angry Men, a jury deliberates conviction or acquittal for an 18-year-old charged in the death of his father. As the audience watches the passionate deliberations, they see the jurors learn about themselves and their own morals and values.

Medicine Hat Musical Theatre is featuring one of the shows daily until Thursday on its Facebook page.

Tickets for Evil Dead The Musical go on sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 15 at mhmtheatre.com. Tickets for the rest of the shows will be on sale about one month before opening night.
