Burnt out and overwhelmed: Medicine Hat vet clinics turning away people and their pets
MEDICINE HAT, AB – Fewer graduates from school and a surge in adoptions during COVID have led to an overburdened veterinary system in Medicine Hat.
Local clinics are having to reduce service hours and turn people and their animals away, leading to angry clients and hurtful comments.
“The clients get angry, and I understand that, and they say very hurtful things like we don’t care, ‘you want my animal to die,’ ‘you’re letting my animal die,'” says Barb Weiss, practice manager at Crossroads Animal Hospital. “It’s not that at all.”
