MEDICINE HAT, AB – Power restoration and clean-up work continues two days after dangerous winds tore through southeastern Alberta.

The City of Medicine Hat says on Wednesday morning 41 customers remain without power, a mix of residential, commercial and industrial customers. Power was restored to the majority of customers in the Town of Redcliff at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

More than 71 poles, many of which were newer, were broken due to the wind. Crews are focused Wednesday on rebuilding transmission infrastructure, where damage is extensive. The city says staff will continue to work extended hours to expedite repairs while closely monitoring for safety and worker fatigue.

Echo Dale Regional Park suffered considerable damage, says the city. The park and campground are currently closed to the public. This includes the road and trails leading to the park. Clean-up efforts began on Tuesday and will continue today. Electric crews will also be in the park to repair seven damaged poles.

Crews are also still cleaning trees, branches and debris in parks around the city. Any branches which are still attached to trees or larger trees which have fallen will be removed by our certified arborist teams.

The city is also asking people to respect barricades and stay away from areas that are closed, including Box Springs Road near CF Industries and Methanex, and is reminding residents to respect the privacy of property owners who were affected by the storm.
