Cost of natural gas and electricity up again

The natural gas and electricity rates for City of Medicine Hat utility customers are rising again. The city released the rates on Monday.

Natural gas will cost those on the floating rate $9.094 per gigajoule this month, up from the June rate of $8.699. July’s rate is between the $9.863 set by Apex (formerly AltaGas) and the $8.324 set by Direct Energy.

The fixed-rate for 2022 is $4.35 per GJ, as of Jan. 1.

Electricity customers on the floating rate will pay 14.795 cents per kilowatt-hour this month, up from 11.699 cents per kilowatt-hour in June.

This month’s electricity price falls between the high of 15.093 cents set by Epcor (Edmonton) and the low of 14.393 cents set by Direct Energy.

The fixed-rate offered by the city is 8 cents per kilowatt-hour for 2022.
