Therapeutic Foster Families needed in southern Alberta

Jun 29, 2022 | 5:11 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The McMan, Youth, Family, and Community Services Association is calling on individuals who want to make a difference in a child’s life.

The organization is looking for therapeutic foster caregivers to help children who have experienced trauma in southern Alberta.

Therapeutic foster caregiving is new to the region and focuses on providing children increased therapy while strengthening their connection to their culture and community.

The ultimate goal is to help children return to a safe home that is permanent.

Specialized paid training will be provided for interested caregivers.

McMan is hoping to recruit between 10 to 15 families throughout Southern Alberta.

Damon Van Ginneken, director of services, says there is a huge need for this type of foster care right now.

“Therapeutic foster case is more intensive than traditional foster care, so the amount of supports that are offered to both the family of origin the caregivers themselves, and the youth are more intensive than traditional foster care, so there is more clinical consultation, there is more behavioral planning,” he said.

Anyone interested is asked to contact McMan. A link to their website can be found here.
