Severe thunderstorm warning issued for CFB Suffield area

Environment Canada is tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain in its Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield area on Wednesday afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued specifically for areas near CFB Suffield just before 2 p.m.

This severe thunderstorm is located 25 km northeast of Ralston and is moving to the southeast at 40 km/h, says Environment Canada.

Environment Canada reminds people that severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes and lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

A larger portion of the Medicine Hat-Bow Island-Suffield, including the city, remains under a severe thunderstorm watch that was issued Wednesday morning. The Brooks-Strathmore-Vulcan and Hanna-Coronation-Oyen areas are also under a severe thunderstorm watch this afternoon.
