Gyp-Tec Drywall seeks artist to paint mural

MEDICINE HAT, AB – A Medicine Hat drywall company is looking for a local artist to give a facelift to a highly-visible wall on a busy city street.

Charlotte Kessler says Gyp-Tec Drywall wants to highlight their pride in the community and also the community itself. The mural will be painted on the south-facing shop wall on Kingsway Avenue.

Kessler, a volunteer for the company’s community and passion projects, says they hope artists will use their creativity and vision to propose a design no one at the company has thought of. There are only a few things they’re asking for in the mural.

“We want it to be eye-catching, we want it to promote pride in our community, we want it to be positive and tasteful but in a unique way and we want it to be professional, engaging and timeless,” she says, adding it must also complement the building itself, the area and the community.

“We put a lot of thought and effort and love into building those buildings, the office and the shop down on Kingsway and we don’t want to distract from that and so it should complement the building itself but also the area and the community.

The final day for interested artists to apply is July 17. If a suitable applicant is found the project will be awarded before Aug. 5 and the hope is to have the mural complete this fall.
